Boise-based Trippy Hearts make witchy/wavy/moody/melodic music on the hopeful edge of the existential ache. Jenn Sutkowski is on Rhodes electric piano and vocals, Brent Heiner on guitar, and Stephen Samuelson on baritone guitar, bass and drums. The core trio of Trippy Hearts started as a long-distance idea until Brent and Jenn moved to Boise to make it a reality. Brent, Jenn, and Steve wrote Lacewing (released January 2021) and recorded it at Rabbitbrush Audio in Boise with Z.V. House, and Mell Dettmer at Studio Soli in Seattle mastered it. The trio’s songs are heartfelt with feelings of yearning for home, wherever that is, and ambivalence toward modern life. But there are bright edges, too, because music is cathartic.
