Trippy Hearts
Trippy Hearts is a Boise, Idaho–based trio making hypnotic, melodic rock. Their music has been described as “entrancing,” and they’re not afraid to get loud.
The band is Jenn Sutkowski (Rhodes, keys, vocals), Brent Heiner (guitar, harmonies), and Stephen Samuelson (drums). Formed in 2013 by longtime collaborators, Trippy Hearts became a full-time project after Sutkowski and Heiner relocated to Boise.
Their second full-length, Murmuration, is named after the coordinated, shifting flight patterns of starlings moving as one. The album explores power, collapse, and vulnerability in an unraveling world. It asks what it means to remain intact — and to build something beautiful — when stability feels uncertain. It was recorded by Wyatt Jarsky in Boise, mixed by Lilian Blair in Seattle, and mastered by Rachel Field at Resonant Mastering in Seattle. The album will be released on My My Records on June 5, 2026 and is available to order now.
Their debut full-length, Lacewing (2021), was recorded at Rabbitbrush Audio in Boise with Z.V. House and mastered by Mell Dettmer (Studio Soli, Seattle). The record was added to over seventy-five radio stations, helping establish the band’s presence in the Northwest and on college radio. Early praise included, “If you found this one, you’ll be rewarded,” describing the band’s sound as “noir-like dream pop” with “moments of pure fury.”
Over the past decade, Trippy Hearts has become a steady presence in Boise’s thriving music community while building a reputation that reaches beyond city limits. They’ve shared stages with Blonde Redhead, Greet Death, King Hannah, Night Palace, Pink Sky, awakebutstillinbed, Lutalo, and Ganser, in addition to numerous Boise artists. They’ve performed at Treefort Music Fest and Flipside Fest and appeared live on Radio Boise’s Listen Local Day. They are known for dynamic live performances that balance “essential pocket energy” with room to breathe. Audience members have called the shows “enchanting,” saying, “It gave me chills and made me cry.”
The band sits comfortably alongside mood-forward acts like DIIV, Slowdive, and Blonde Redhead while maintaining a distinct Northwest identity.
In 2024, Sutkowski co-released the vinyl-only We Came to Eat: A Northwest Femme-Led Rock Comp with Gia Trotter of Roller Dome, spotlighting regional femme-led projects — from PNW acts like Itchy Kitty, Wild Powwers, and Cat Valley, to Boise’s Dirt Fishermen and Gock. Community and collaboration remain central to the band’s work.
